“The
wind-chill drops to minus seventy, the air painfully claws at
the exposed flesh on my face. I blink, my eyelids freeze shut.
We scour the frozen fields in Canada to search for a polar bear
emerging from her den with her young cubs. We run the gauntlet
of blizzards and white-outs while our mechanical equipment struggles
to function. When we find the bears, relaxed and playful, I
am acutely aware of my own fragile nature. Shivering in my high-tech
clothing, I watch the infant cubs play in the snow, so well
protected by their magnificent coats.”

From
polar bears in the Arctic North to macaws in the
Amazon, the Americas chapter is filled with the variety
of life. We see grizzly bears catching salmon, dolphins
jumping in the Caribbean and bald eagles in Alaska. |
